President and CEO

John Kurz became President and CEO of Alyeska Pipeline Service Company in April 2023. John is the 14th president to lead Alyeska since its formation in 1970.

John brings over three decades of experience in the oil and gas industry. This included 19 years with BP, where his multiple executive positions around the world included serving as Senior Operations Manager for Greater Prudhoe Bay.

“It is an incredible opportunity to return home and serve as Alyeska’s President and CEO,” John said.

John’s most recent professional role was Chief Operating Officer for Santos and Oil Search in Papua New Guinea. John previously held other leadership roles in the oil and gas industry working in Iraq, Dubai, Azerbaijan, Egypt, Indonesia, Texas, and Alaska. Career highlights include overseeing operations in oil and gas fields, terminals and pipelines.

“In all my leadership roles, I have worked to inspire the Team to deliver greater performance and results across the board in safety, production, cost, and other business measures, while also leaving an enduring legacy of improvement,” John said. “I have always been motivated to help develop individuals to improve capability and performance and prepare the next big leaders in the company. I look forward to continuing this work on TAPS.”

John met his spouse Cheryl in Anchorage, all three of his children were born here, and he holds a Master of Science Degree in Engineering Management from the University of Alaska. In his spare time, John is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, camping, hiking, skiing, and other sports.
