Tracey Mueller
Recruiting/Alaska Native Program Coordinator
Describe what
you do:
I work on the
Alaska Native Program and assist in recruiting and retaining
Alaska Natives for positions here at Alyeska, and also on TAPS.
I also head the Building Foundations for Excellence Program,
Supplemental Training, and Summer Internship program and just
recently became recruiting group lead. I work with all aspects
of recruiting and bringing new employees on board.
Why do you like
your job?
The variety of
the work I do. It’s never the same. You learn something new
about Alyeska every day. I haven’t worked with so many wonderful
people as I have in my short time at Alyeska.
What advice
would you give to TAPS employees?
Write a
resume that’s specific to the job posting. Don’t assume that
because you’ve worked for Alyeska for a number of years that the
person screening will know that. Address all minimum
qualifications down to the detail. For example, if minimum
qualifications ask for computer skills, address that in your
resume or a cover letter to get through the first screening.
Also address any preferences, if applicable.
How does
Alyeska develop its Alaska Native employees?
One of the
most significant ways is through summer internships. This “3-month
long interview,” so to speak, lets both the intern and the
company see if there’s a fit. Also our long-standing partnership
with the Alaska Native Science & Engineering Program gives us a
prime recruiting resource. Students from this program are some
of the brightest in the state. Finally, the Building Foundations
for Excellence Program is a development program that gives
candidates training, knowledge and experience for various
positions in Alyeska.
What do you
enjoy outside of work?
I’m a huge
sports fan - a football and a diehard NY Jets fan from way
back! I also enjoy volleyball, softball, downhill and cross
country skiing.
