TAPS
project, people featured on World’s Toughest Fixes
TAPS takes
center stage this Thursday with the much-anticipated premier of
National Geographic’s World’s Toughest Fixes episode
about the Remote Gate Valve 72 replacement that took place in
June 2008. The show is scheduled for Thursday, June 11 at 5 p.m.
Alaska time on channel 54 in Anchorage, Valdez and Fairbanks on
GCI Cable Network.
Worlds
Toughest Fixes
is an ongoing engineering series that highlights complicated and
intense industrial repairs. Most episodes highlight work that
occurs in a tight timeframe. TAPS’ RGV 72 replacement fit the
bill.
A television
crew from the Nat Geo Channel spent several weeks in June 2008
in the Fairbanks area, filming preparations for the valve
replacement, and staying for the duration of the shutdown. More
than 100 TAPS employees were on scene for the project and share
the spotlight with the show’s host, Sean Riley. Many others from
TAPS worked behind the scenes to make the filming possible.
“We knew the
show would be a great way to tell the story of the people both
out in the field and in the office who prepared for and carried
out the shutdown work,” said Matt Carle, External Affairs
Manager for Alyeska. “A lot of background work had to happen so
the camera crew could be onsite safely and without interrupting
the work. It was really a team effort across the company.”
